6 Great PC Games Not Available on Steam
Battlefield 1, Overwatch, Apex Legends and other titles worthy of the attention of sophisticated gamers.
1. Forza Horizon 4
Forza Horizon 4 is one of the best racing games on PC. The main thing in it is freedom. More than 450 cars, almost the whole of England with forests, mountains and villages as a game world and dozens of activities – here the player always has something to do.
You can compete in speed with an airplane, participate in a circuit race, or just ride for hours through the fields. On top of that, Forza Horizon 4 has gorgeous graphics and optimizations – it looks great even on weak cars.
2. Titanfall 2
A great shooter that was unlucky with the release date – in 2016, it was released exactly between the next Call of Duty and Battlefield. In Titanfall 2, everything is good: both a single-player campaign and multiplayer.
In the story mode, the player will have to make friends with a huge robot, move through time several times and fight in a factory for the production of houses. In each chapter, there are amazing moments that are forever etched in the memory. In terms of the inventiveness of the gameplay, many even put the shooter on a par with Half-Life 2.
And in multiplayer, players are waiting for dynamic battles with running on walls and double jumps, gorgeous shooting and, most importantly, titans. Fighting on your huge robot with enemy machines is a real pleasure.
3. Overwatch
In just a couple of years, Overwatch has become one of the main multiplayer shooters on the planet. Thanks in part to a vibrant and cartoonish visual style reminiscent of Pixar movies. Partly because of the gameplay, tied to the unique abilities of several dozen heroes.
And also thanks to the lore. Blizzard has created a thoughtful world with an extensive history, unusual heroes and villains. It is so interesting that you can study it without even playing the shooter itself. Analyze trailers, dates and hints that developers leave in character descriptions. It’s an important part of Overwatch, without which the game would have lost the lion’s share of its charm.
4. Apex Legends
Apex Legends is a “battle royale” that Electronic Arts released in February 2019 without prior announcement. Gorgeous gameplay from the developers of Titanfall and an unexpected release paid off: in just a month, the project attracted more than 50 million players.
In fact, Apex Legends is a mixture of “battle royale” with Titanfall 2 and Overwatch. From the first, she got the general principles of the genre, from the second – the dynamics of gameplay, shooting and weapons, and from the third – characters with unique abilities. The result is, if not the best battle royale in the world, then certainly the most dynamic.
5. Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 changed a lot in the classic formula of the series. Modern conflicts have been replaced by the battles of the First World War, high-tech transport by the first tanks and biplanes, and instead of quadcopters and motion sensors, signal rockets and telescopes are used here.
Despite these innovations, the game has not become less large-scale or dynamic. An ordinary match in Battlefield 1 proceeds about the same as in the famous trailer. Planes fall and explode all around, horses gallop, flamethrowers pour jets of fire on victims. The change of era benefited the series and made it possible to make the fights truly epic.
6. Mass Effect 3
When the final game of the Mass Effect trilogy was just released, many gamers were dissatisfied. The ending almost did not depend on the actions of the hero throughout the plot, and the very end of the story was cute – it was not clear what happened to the inhabitants of the galaxy and Shepard himself.
But after a few patches and additions, the action became one-piece. He has received numerous “Game of the Year” awards and high critical acclaim. In this part, the developers corrected the shortcomings of the combat system, strengthened the role elements and raised the stakes in the plot: this time the destruction of all living things is at stake.
